DESOPADEC APPOINTMENTS: A DELIBERATE INJUSTICE SERVED THE OGULAGHA PEOPLE HIS EXCELLENCY THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE - By Comrade Victor Oyinke Isereke
Once again our peaceful disposition has turned around to hunt us; once again this Governor deem it fit to sideline my people from the political gains of Delta State just as his predecessors.
The Ogulagha Kingdom people in Burutu LGA of Delta State contributes immensely toward the economic wellbeing of our beloved State as over 40% of the total oil produced in the state is from our kingdom; and we have for "over 40years created and sustained the enabling environment for the activities of the oil exploration companies to strive" even at the peak of the Niger Delta arms struggle for self liberation that was aimed at crippling oil exploitation in Niger Delta region.
We are endowed with human resources just as we endowed with natural resources; our biggest challenge today is the total negligence from government and it's agencies in terms of infrastructural and human capital development; as we are relegated to the back in the preferential scale of development by successive government in Delta State and Nigeria in general.
No Ogulagha son/daughter has been lucky enough to be elected or appointed into political offices even if it is "SA to the SA to the Deputy Governor" save for the very recent emergence of our own Hon. Julius Gbabojor Pondi as a member of the 8th National Assembly, Representing the Burutu Federal Constituency.
We received with joy the emergence of a grassroot politician like Sen. (Dr.) Ifeayin Arthur Okowa as the flag bearer of the Democratic Party hence mobilised enmass to deliver over 10,000 votes from our kingdom totally for a man we believed will turn the table around by bringing the ever peace loving Ogulagha People to dine from his prosperity table.
It is now over 100 hundred days since His Excellency assumed office, it is also now over 100 days of waiting for the Ogulagha people; over a hundred days of continued exploitation of our oil onshore and offshore without recourse to our wellbeing; it is now over a hundred days His Excellency does not see any Ogulagha Son or Daughter as worthy to be appointed into his cabinet.
Yes it is within your rights to appoint whoever you deem fit but one thing that the Ogulagha People will never forgive you for is the deliberate injustice you served us by not deeming it fit to appoint an Ogulagha indigene into the just constituted board and management of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) knowing very well that we contribute over 40% of the total oil produced in the State.
Your excellency sir, I really think it is not out of place for you to bring the Ogulagha People to the fore in your scale of preference as we have sacrificed our happiness over the years for the collective good of our State in particular and the nation in general.
Come to think of it, we contribute so much to our economy yet we live in zinc coated houses while the oil exploration companies live in very serene estates in our land, we have no water to drink while the companies drink well treated still water; we can only access our communities via boats not withstanding the turbulence of the Atlantic Ocean while the oil giants airlift their workers to and from work.
Conclusively, I believe that if the Ogulagha People are left unattended by government just as the multinational oil companies have abandoned us we will sooner or later device other means of seeking the attention of Government and the multinationals.
"A stitch in time they said saves nine"
