President Jonathan, General Buhari and others Accept Election Free Non-Violence

The National Security Adviser and Special Adviser to the president on Inter-Party Affairs, Colonel Sambo Dasuki yesterday, January 13th 2015, organized election sensitization workshop on election free non-violence at Abuja for the presidential candidates for all political parties in the country.

It was a significant event and it shows an indication that peace must be welcomed as the paramount in the February 2015 general elections in the country.

President Jonathan, All   Progressive Party (APC) presidential Aspirants, General Muhammadu Buhari and others political parties aspirant agree to sign undertaking for violence free election in the country.

Asypeters Info Blog gather that, the event was chaired by the former secretary of commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku.

Chief Emeka Communique read "the political parties agreed to: “run issue-based campaigns at national, state and local government levels. In this, we pledged to refrain from campaigns that will involve religious incitement, ethnic or tribal profiling both by ourselves and by all agents acting in our names.

“The level of violence, especially in the aftermath of the forthcoming elections, will take a new dimension. So it is important to nip it in the bud now.

Anyaoku said the workshop provided opportunities for all participants to exchange views on how to ensure free, fair and non-violent elections.

“To commit ourselves and political parties to the monitoring of the adherence to this accord if necessary by a national peace committee made up of respected statesmen and women, traditional and religious leaders.”

He also added that “all the institutions of government, including INEC and security agencies, must act and be seen to act with impartiality.”

“Political campaigns should be free of violence. All candidates should not only speak against violence, but should be seen to discourage. The forthcoming election will be a watershed he a said.

The election free non-violence agreement was sign in the present of eminent Nigeria personalities include former United Nation’s Secretary-General, Kofi Annan; the chairman of the event and former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku; the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega; former Nigeria’s representative to the United Nations, Professor Ibrahim Gambari and the Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Inter-party Affairs, Senator Ben Obi.
